The following despatch has been received by  the Secretary of State for War from General Sir Douglas Haig, G.C.B., Commander-in-Chief of the British Forces in France: I

Sir, - I have the honour to forward herewith the names of those under my command whom I wish to bring to notice for gallant and distinguished conduct in the field.

The date of the promotion to the temporary rank of Major  of temporary Captain A. E. Phillips, notified in Gazette  of 26th February 1916, is antedated to 12 October 1915.

Royal West Kent Regiment - Temporary  Major A. E. Phillips to be acting Lieutenant Colonel while commanding a Battalion. - 9 March  1917.

London Gazette 4th December 1917.

Royal West Kent Regiment - Temporary  Major A. E. Phillips  relinquishes the acting rank of Lieutenant - Colonel  on ceasing to command a Battalion - 24 April 1917.
