Lieutenant - Colonel Edward Vincent Osborne HEWETT, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.


Hart’s Annual Army List 1908 – 2nd September 1885, Lieutenant; 19th March 1894, Captain; 27th May 1903, Major. Professor Royal Military College, Canada.

Major Hewett served with the Soudan Frontier Field Force in 1885-86 and was present in the engagement at Giniss (Medal and Khedive's Star. Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in 1897-98 with the Malakand Field Force as Brigade Signaller 1st Brigade during operations in Upper Swat including  the engagement at Landakai and the operations in Bajaur and the Mohmand Country and with the Utman Khel Column; also served with the Buner Field Force as Divisional Signalling Officer during the operations in Buner and Chamia including the engagement at Tanga Pass (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).

Royal West Kent Regiment - Major (Honorary Lieutenant - Colonel), E V O Hewett, CMG, DSO., to be temporary Lieutenant - Colonel whilst commanding a Battalion. 12th March 1918, with seniority from 20th February 1915.

London Gazette 3rd June 1919.

The King has been graciously pleased, on the occasion of His Majesty's Birthday, to give orders for the following promotions in, and appointments to, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for valuable services rendered in connection with the War.

To be Officers of the Military Division of the said Most Excellent Order.

3rd Royal West Kent Regiment - Major (temporary Lieutenant - Colonel), E V O Hewett, CMG, DSO, OBE., Reserve of Officers, relinquishes his temporary rank on ceasing to command the Battalion. 31st July 1919.
