Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Fitzhenry TOWNSHEND, 11th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, 16th September 1916.

19th May 1874, born Dublin, Ireland, son of #Lieutenant Colonel Henry Fitzjohn & * Mary Christiana Townshend. *died 21st February 1890, Dublin, Ireland. # died 9th August 1912, Skibbereen, Cork, Ireland.

1894 enlisted as Lieutenant, 2nd Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).

Formerly Major, 9th Battalion Scottish Rifles.

12th May 1915, posted BEF.

Sister Mrs E H Gorges, 46 Clarges Street, Piccadilly, W1.

27th November 1916, Probate - Arthur Fitzhenry Townshend of Tally Ho, Castletownshend, County Cork, Lieutenant Colonel died 16th September 1916 in France. Probate Dublin to Sylvia Rosalie Gorges (wife of Edmond Howard Gorges C.B.). Effects £6095 15s 2d.in England. Sealed London 27th November.

Buried at Heilly Station Cemetery, IV. F. 8., Mericourt-l'Abbe, France.

The Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). Temporary Major Arthur F. Townshend (Captain, Reserve of Officers), from The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), to command a Battalion, and to be temporary Lieutenant- Colonel. Dated 28th January, 1916.

The following despatch has been received by the Secretary of State for War from General Sir Douglas Haig, G.C.B., Commander-in-Chief of the British Armies in France:
