Serjeant William James STARLING, G/8500, 10th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment,  killed in action, Flanders France, 15th September 1916, age 40.

Born Tottenham, Middlesex, son of Mark and Julia Starling.

1st February 1903, Wesleyan Chapel, New Brompton, Kent, married Emily Bullock, of 23A, Park Road, Gillingham, Kent.

Children - William Charles James Starling, born 2nd April 1905; Julia Millicent Starling, born 8th March 1909;


1911 Census - 24A Park Road, Gillingham, Kent - William James Starling, head, age 37, married, jobbing gardener, own account, born Tottenham, London; Emily Starling, wife, age 37, married 12 years, 5 children, 3 still alive, born  Gillingham, Kent; Francis George Starling, son, age 10, school, born Gillingham, Kent; William Charles James Starling, son, age 6, school, born Gillingham, Kent; Julia Millicent Starling, daughter, age 2, born  Gillingham, Kent. 


Children -  Mary Winifred Starling, born 10th September 1911.

Enlisted Chatham, Kent.  Resided Gillingham, Kent.

Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Pier & Face 11C, Somme, France.
