Serjeant Stanley Gordon BUDD, G/1541, 7th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, Flanders France,  2nd November 1916, age 31 

Born Brighton, Sussex, son of Alfred and Florence Budd, of Brighton, Sussex.

Husband of Susannah Bassett (formerly Budd), of 122, St. Marys Road, Tonbridge Kent.


1911 Census - 9 Caister Road, Tonbridge, Kent - Stanley Budd, head, age 26, married, compositor, born Brighton, Sussex; Susannah Budd, wife, age 26, married under 1 year, born Tonbridge, Kent.


Enlisted Tonbridge, Kent. Resided Tonbridge, Kent.

26th July 1915, posted BEF.

Buried at  Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, VIII.D.61.,  Pas de Calais, France.


Commemorated on Tonbridge War Memorial - Tonbridge War Memorial - The original World War I memorial at the Junction of Pembury Road and Quarry Hill. The names were later re-inscribed in the new Memorial Garden in Bradford Street. 

From Tonbridge History - Stanley Gordon Budd was born at Brighton in 1885, the son of Alfred and Florence Budd. He married Sushannah [sic] Carter at Tonbridge in 1910, and he is recorded as living in Caister Road. He worked as a compositor in one of the local print works. He enlisted in 1914 at Tonbridge and served as Sergeant G/1541 in the 7th Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment. He went to France on 26th July 1915. He died of his wounds on 2nd November 1916 and is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
