For fine initiative and ability in the attack near Le Cateau on 23rd October 1918. He carried very daring patrols and located the enemy dispositions on one occasion crawling up to an enemy machine gun and shooting the crew. During the assault he led his men with great skill and courage and though severely wounded carried on until the final objective was reached.
