Serjeant Frederick George WILLIAMS, L/9841, 1st Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, near Bethune, Flanders France, 25th November 1916, age 21.

5th March 1895, born Heston, Hounslow, Middlesex, son of John Benjamin Williams and Eliza, (daughter of George Hunt), of 13 Belgrave Road, Wellington Road, Hounslow, Middlesex.

Educated Hounslow Heath School.

De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour - Was with his Regiment in Ireland on the outbreak of war, 4th August 1914; served with the Expeditionary Force in France & Flanders from 13th August 1914; took part in the retreat from Mons on the 25th and 26th August and in the subsequent fighting; was invalided home in November 1914, suffering from exhaustion; rejoined his Regiment in France in March 1915, and was amongst those who captured Hill 60 on 17th April 1915, when he was wounded and invalided home again; on his return later in 1915, he was once more invalided and sent to a Base Hospital, suffering from rheumatism; was again wounded and invalided home, returning in May 1916, when he fought in the Third Battle of the Somme, and was killed in action near Bethune, by a sniper as the Regiment was returning to rest billets.


Buried at Gorre British & Indian Cemetery, III. D. 6., Pas de Calais, France.
