Serjeant Donald ERSKINE, L/5837, 1st  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment,  died of wounds, as a Prisoner of War, Feldlag 2, Peronne, Flanders France, 22nd November 1915.

Born 6th September 1882, St Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland, fourth son of James Erskine, of Nelson Street, Aberdeen, Scotland, rope maker by his wife Annie, daughter of John Bannach.

Educated St Andrews School, Aberdeen, Scotland.

Enlisted  Aberdeen, Scotland.

24th April 1909, married St Andrews Church, Aberdeen, Scotland to Mary, (daughter of William Taylor), 8 Walker Place, Torry, Aberdeen, Scotland.

Children - William Erskine, born 6th September 1909; Donald Erskine, born 24th May 1912.

Served in the South African War 1900-2, (Queens & Kings Medals with Clasps); obtained his discharge, joined the Reserve; became a hairdresser with Messrs Machan & Sons Ltd, Scostoun, Glasgow.

4th August 1914, called up on the outbreak of the European War; 21st April 1915, posted BEF.

Commemorated by Special Memorial, Memorial Plot. Tincourt New British Cemetery, Memorial Plot, Somme, France. "To the memory of this British Soldier died as a Prisoner of War in 1915 and buried at the time in Peronne German Cemetery, but whose grave is now lost" "Their Glory should not be blotted out"

Commemorated on Aberdeen Roll of Honour.
