Private Walter Samuel (Sam) BENNETT, G/10457, "C" Company, 6th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders, France, death presumed on or after 3rd July 1916, age 31.

Born Salisbury, Wiltshire, son of Thomas and Annie Bennett, of Ashcombe, Tollard Royal, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

15th April 1916, Gillingham, Kent, married Ethel Flora Bennett, spinster.

Enlisted  Bromley, Kent, age 31, height 5ft 4 inches, weight 140lbs.  Resided 53 Balfour Road, Bromley Common, Bromley, Kent. Formerly gardener.

Home 26th October 1915 to 25th April 1916; BEF 26th April 1916 to 3rd July 1916.

26th October 1915, enlisted; 2nd November 1915, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 4th November 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 26th April 1916, posted BEF & 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd July 1916, posted missing.

12th March 1917, pension awarded to widow, 10/- a week. Widow remarried now Mrs Ethel Flora Casbolt  of 14, Macaulay Road, East Ham, London.

16th January ? 1920, Statement of Relatives - Widow Ethel Flora Casbolt, 14, Macaulay Road, East Ham, London;  Father, Thomas Bennett, Ashcombe, Tollard Royal, Salisbury, Wiltshire; Mother, Annie Bennett, Ashcombe, Tollard Royal, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Commemorated at Ovillers Military Cemetery, VII.D.9., Somme, France.
