Born Holloway, London, Middlesex, enlisted 27th March 1907, Tonbridge, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 5½ inches, weight 126lbs, resided Bourne Grange Farm, Hadlow nr Tonbridge, Kent, 5 Waterloo Street, Hove, Sussex. Formerly labourer.

Son of John & Martha Hazlewood, Blackmans Lane, Hadlow, nr Tonbridge, Kent.

Home, 27th March 1907 to 1st December 1908; India, 2nd December 1908 to 31st January 1915; Indian Expeditionary Force, 1st February 1915 to 4th August 1915; India, 5th August 1915 to 8th September 1915; Home, 9th September 1915 to 11th September 1916.

27th March 1907, enlisted, Royal Sussex Regiment; 3rd April 1907, Maidstone, Kent, "I desire to transferred from the Royal Sussex Regiment  to the Royal West Kent Regiment"; 4th September 1907, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 2nd December 1908, posted 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment;

3rd July 1914, Multan, India, Form of Agreement, "I, 8620 Private Walter Hazlewood, (2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment), being now under an engagement to serve with the Colours for 7 years, do hereby agree to extend such service to be completed in India provided a Unit of my Corps is serving in the country - Army Act, Section 83 - and in consideration of this agreement now made I am to receive the sum of Rs. 250." ;

24th July 1915, wounded severely, ankle, foot shortened; 28th August 1916, Hammersmith Military Hospital;

11th September 1916, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued
