Born Ashbourne, Derbyshire, son of the late John and Jane Hayes.

Enlisted  Beswick, Lancashire.

Brothers, James, Joseph & John; Sisters, Martha Walton, Mary J Knott & Sarah.

Commemorated at Pozieres Memorial, Panel 58 and 59, France.
