25th April 1918, letter from Miss J D Reid, 77 Bushwood Road, Kew, London SW to The Officer i/c Army Pay Corps Records, 4 London Wall Buildings - "Dear Sir, would you be so good as to inform me whether you have any definite news of No.3762 Cpl W Povey, A.P.D. Unit A.P.038 A.P. Corps. He was transferred to the Rl. West Kent Regt. on the 27th January 1918, & when last heard from was serving in the latter Regt. as Pte. No.20662 11th Platoon, "C" Coy 7th Bn. No letter has been received from him for the last six weeks & no information as to he present whereabouts can be obtained from The War Office Casualty Enquiry Office. As hitherto his people have heard from him regularly & frequently & owing to the present recent fighting they are naturally most anxious to receive definite news. I have addressed a similar enquiry to the Officer i/c Records, Hounslow. Trusting that you will give this matter your prompt and considerate attention. I am sir, yours faithfully Miss Janet D Reid"
4th May 1918, letter from Infantry Records Office, Hounslow to Miss J D Reid, 77 Bushwood Road, Kew, London SW - "Madam, your letter to the War Office requesting new of No.20662 Private W POVEY, 7th Bn, Royal West Kent Regt; has been forwarded to me to reply. I can only inform me that no casualty has yet been reported concerning Pte. Povey, should occasion arise his Next-of-Kin will be communicated with as expeditiously as possible."
