Private Samuel BIGGS, 31022, 9th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, (transferred to 60043, 101st Company, Labour Corps), died of wounds, Flanders, France, 21st May 1918.

Born West Greenwich, Kent, son of James Biggs, 45 Church Street, Greenwich /27 James Street.

Called up for Service & joined at Lewisham, Kent, age 40, height 5ft 4¼ inches, weight 133lbs. Resided 27 Mill Road, Lewisham, SE. Formerly labourer.

Previously served in Royal Fusiliers.

Home 22nd March 1916 to 6th May 1916; BEF 7th May 1916 to 21st May 1918.

22nd March 1916, called up for Service; 29th March 1916, attached 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, 31022; 5th April 1916, posted Royal Fusiliers, Service No. 28479; 7th May 1916, Southampton, embarked; 8th May 1916, disembarked; 14th May 1917, transferred to 101st Labour Company, Labour Corps; 26th October 1917, 107 Field Ambulance, bronchitis; 28th October 1917, 13 Casualty Clearing Station; 8th December 1917, rejoined Battalion; 10th December 1917, 14 days leave; 24th December 1917, rejoined from leave; 13th May 1918, gassed, shell wound, admitted 9 Lakeside HSA, General Hospital Rouen; 20th May 1918, progress report, gassed, seriously ill; 21st May 1918, died as a result of wounds.

Buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension, Q. IV. B. 6., Rouen, France.
