Born Pimlico, Middlesex, son of Henry and Norah Ann Shelford, 7 Little Blenheim Street, Chelsea, London.

Previous served 3rd Battalion, (Militia), Middlesex Regiment, age 19 years & 3 months. Formerly labourer.


Home 3rd October 1899 to 4th July 1901; South Africa 5th July 1901 to 2nd January 1903; Home 3rd January 1903 to 2nd October 1911.

London, enlisted age 19 years, height 5ft 7 inches, weight 126lbs, fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, specisk scar forehead, left forearm cross & blue marks.

3rd October 1899, enlisted; 7th October 1899, Maidstone, joined Royal West Kent Regiment, Service No.5643; 5th July 1901, to South Africa with No.4. Shorncliffe Mounted Infantry Company; 23rd July 1902, posted 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 4th January 1903, transferred to Army Reserve, Class "B"; 2nd October 1911, Army Reserve, Class "B" discharged, Termination of first period of Engagement.

Medals - Queens South Africa, Clasps, Transvaal, Orange Free State, 1901 1902.


1909 September, Chelsea Registration District, Patrick Shelford married *Jessie Louisa Brawn, 163, New Road, Battersea. *born 24th January 1888.

Previously served 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, time expired & National Reserve Class I.

Home 23rd August 1914 to 12th January 1916.

Enlisted Battersea, age 36 years, 64 days, height 5ft 9 inches, weight 143lbs, sallow complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, tattooing left forearm. Resided 29 Sleaford Street, Battersea. Formerly carman.

23rd August 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th August 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 16th September 1914, deprived of 8 days pay by Commanding Officer for absence.


15th November 1915, Medical Board - bronchitis chronic - Originated early in 1915 at Chatham, where he was frequently exposed to bad weather. The cough became worse, & he was in Hospital at Epsom for 7 weeks. Complains chiefly of most troublesome cough & general debility. Abundant expectoration. The condition seems to have made no improvement. Result of Service, exposure, permanent, prevents  ¾.

12th January 1916, Fort Darland, Chatham, discharged. Time of discharge, age 35 years & 7 months, height 5ft 9 inches, sallow complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, . Formerly carman. Intended place of residence - 58 Ascalan Street, Battersea Park, London. Being no longer fit for War Service, (. Military Character, good. Served 1 year & 141 days.

Pension - 18/9 for 6 months. Children Allowance 2/- for three children.

Children - Mary Ann Magdalen Shelford, born 17th March 1916; 1918 June, died age 2, Wandsworth Registration District.

28th July 1916, Medical Board - total incapacity, pension 25/- for 12 months, 2/6 for three children

1918 December, Wandsworth Registration District, Jessie L Shelford, married William Boon.

Commemorated at Kensal Green, St Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 8. (Screen Wall), London.
