Private John CLAYTON, G/17058, 10th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, (shrapnel wounds back & chest), 17 Casualty Clearing Station, Flanders France, 4th August 1917, age 41.

Born Howick, Scotland, son of Thomas and Jemima Clayton of Hawick, Roxburghshire.

5th September 1907, Register Office, Hunslet, Leeds, Yorkshire,  married Agnes Munro McGregor, of 87, Tennyson Avenue, Scarborough.

Child - John Clayton, born 4th June 1908, Wood Green. Middlesex.

Enlisted Palmers Green, Kent, age 38 years & 11 months, height 5ft 11 inches, weight 126lbs, complexion dark, eyes hazel, hair brown. Resided 5 Livingstone Road, Palmers Green, Kent. Formerly sports goods salesman.

7th December 1915, enlisted; 7th December 1915, to Army Reserve; 29th July 1916, mobilized; 30th July 1916, posted 12th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st September 1916, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th November 1916, posted BEF / embarked / disembarked; 5th December 1916, posted 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

10th February 1918, date to which Separation Allowance of 14/6 + 3/6 & Allotment of Pay of 3/6 a week will be paid.

11th February 1918, pension of 18/9 a week awarded to widow & one child.

Buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, XVII. G. 5., Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
