27th April 1916, enlisted into Durham Light Infantry, 31979. joined Depot at Newcastle on Tyne; 3rd July 1917, to BEF; 21st July 1917, transferred to 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, allocated new Regimental No. of 19618; 31st July 1917, wounded in action.

Commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial, Panel 106 to 108, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
