12th January 1915, Brighton Register Office, married Katherine Sarah Warne, spinster, 16, Blaker Street, Brighton, Sussex.

Enlisted Brighton, Sussex. age 39 years & 2 months, height 5ft 3½ inches, weight 120½lbs.  Resided 16, Blaker Street, Brighton, Sussex. Formerly baker (bread).

Home 6th December 1915 to 2nd October 1916; BEF 3rd October 1916 to 12th May 1917.

6th December 1915, enlisted; 7th December 1915, to Army Reserve; 19th June 1916, mobilized; 21st June 1916, posted 27th Battalion (Reserve), Royal Fusiliers, Service No.3187; 1st September 1916, transferred & posted 103rd Training Reserve Battalion, Service No.TR/10/56660; 3rd October 1916, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment;  6th October 1916, embarked; 18th October 1916, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

2nd December 1917, date when Separation Allowance of 9/- a week & Allotment of Pay of 3/6 a week payable to wife, will cease.

3rd December 1917, pension of 13/9 a week awarded to widow.

10th June 1920, Statement of Relatives - Widow, Katherine Sarah Merritt, 16, Blaker Street, Brighton; Father, deceased; Mother, Anne Merritt, Droxford, Hampshire; Brothers - Edward George Merritt; Sisters - Ada Bertha Merritt.

Commemorated at Arras Memorial, Bay 7, France.

NOTE: Soldiers Died in the Great War shows date of death as 15th May 1917; CWGC web site shows it as 12th May 1917.
