30th April 1898, born Poplar, London, son of George Henry and Alice Louisa Cain, (nee Hodder), of 193, Devons Road, Bow, London.

19th March 1901, St Saviour, Poplar, Tower Hamlets, baptism of George Henry Cain, son of George Henry (labourer), and Alice Louisa Cain, of 39 Market Street.

Enlisted Stratford, London, age 18, height 5ft 5½, weight 123lbs, scar outside right eye. Resided 197, Devons Road, Bow, London. Formerly jewellers labourer.

6th May 1916, enlisted; 7th May 1916, Winchester joined 52 Grad Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, 18668; 9th May 1916, posted Depot, Rifle Brigade; 10th August 1916, transferred to Army Reserve Class W.

Rejoined at Stratford, Essex, age 18 years & 2 months, height 5ft 5¾ inches.  Resided 193, Devons Road, Bow, London, E3. Formerly dry dock labourer.

27th April 1917, rejoined from Class W reserve, & posted 100th Battalion, Training Reserve, TR/10/46162; 1st September 1917, deserted & struck off strength; 20th September 1917, posted 256 Infantry Battalion; 12th November 1917, having been apprehended by Civil Power is retaken on strength; 12th November 1917 to 6th December 1917, in Guard Room awaiting Trial; 6th December 1917, charged losing clothing, equipment & regimental necessasries, tried by DGM*& found guilty of absence & sentenced to detention  for 56 days; 6th December 1917 to 22nd December 1917, Colchester Hospital, JCT left leg, discharged to Guard Room; 4th January 1918, admitted Colchester Detention Barracks; 31st March 1918, posted BEF; 1st April 1918, arrived Infantry Base "J" Depot; 4th April 1918, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment, & posted 8th Battalion; 7th April 1918, joined Battalion, in the Field; 20th June 1918, Wimereux, admitted 32 Stationary Hospital, NYD pyrexia; 30th June 1918, Boulogne, admitted 1 Convalescent Depot; 2nd July 1918, Ecoult, admitted 10 Convalescent Depot; 26th July 1918, arrived Infantry Base "J" Depot from 10 Convalescent Depot; 2nd August 1918, joined 8th Battalion in the Field.  * link to DCM.


28th April 1919, date to which Separation Allowance of 11/7 will be paid to mother.
