Private Frank Hawthorne HARMSWORTH, 14895, 9th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, die from hemorrhage from * ruptured esophageal varix, (gastric ulcer),  Hampstead Military Hospital, 4.30pm, 24th November 1916, age 41.

18th December 1876, born, son of **Francis  & Clara Harmsworth, 20 Pratt Street, Camden Town.

9th November 1879, St Andrew, Hoxton, Hackney, baptism of Frank Hawthorne Harmsworth, son of Francis, (oil & colorman), & Clara Harmsworth, 37 Goldington Street, St Pancras.

Enlisted Stepney, age 40 years & 2 months, height 5ft 7 inches, weight 128lbs, defective teeth, hammer toes, flat feet. Resided 74 Commercial Road, Spitalfields, London. Formerly potman.

28th February 1916, enlisted; 29th February 1916, to Army Reserve; 15th April 1916, mobilized; 17th April 1916, posted Depot, Royal Fusiliers, Service No.G/35079; 19th April 1916, transferred to 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st September 1916, transferred to 22nd Training Reserve, Service No. TR/10/4951; 21st November 1916 to 24th November 1916, New End Section Military Hospital, Hampstead, London NW.

Next of Kin (sister), Matilda Bolton.

Commemorated at  Hampstead Cemetery, Screen Wall. Q6. B. 24., United Kingdom.

**Died 11th February 1917, age 68, furniture porter, of # morbus cordis & +nephritis, Matilda Boston, daughter, of 27 Goldington Street, St Pancras, present at death.

* esophageal varices are abnormal, enlarged veins in the tube that connects the throat and stomach (esophagus). This condition occurs most often in people with serious liver diseases. Esophageal varices develop when normal blood flow to the liver is blocked by a clot or scar tissue in the liver.

# means no more than heart disease. Probably used by doctors when they didn't know the exact cause of death but were sure it was natural causes.

+ inflammation of the kidneys.
