1876, born Old Buckingham, Norfolk, son of James and Mary Ann Nichols.

21st June 1902, Christ Church, New Catton, Norwich, Norfolk, Ernest Nelson Nichols, age 26, bachelor, labourer, New Catton, father James Nichols, stone miller,  married Maria Sarah Cornwell, age 27, spinster, New Catton, father Alfred Cornwell (deceased), labourer.

Children - Ernest William Nichols, born 19th December 1902, Norwich, Norfolk.


1911 Census - 238, King Street, Norwich, Norfolk - Ernest Nelson Nichols, head, age 34, married, Inspecting bearing in saw mill, for wood box making, worker, born Old Buckingham, Norfolk; Maria Sarah Nichols, wife, age 36, married 8 years, 1 child, still alive, born Norwich, Norfolk; Ernest William Nichols, son, age 8, born Norwich, Norfolk.


Enlisted Norwich, Norfolk, age 39 years & 7 months, height 5ft 8¾ inches, weight 144lbs.  Resided 252, King Street, Norwich, Norfolk. Formerly saw mill labourer.

Separation Allowance 14/- a week, Allotment of Pay 3/6 a week.

16th November 1915, enlisted; 17th November 1915, to Army Reserve; 17th June 1916, mobilized; 18th June 1916, posted; 1st September 1916, posted; 18th October 1916, posted BEF; 19th October 1916, embarked / disembarked; 5th November 1916, joined Battalion, "C" Company; 12th May 1917, 6 Field Ambulance PUO; 27th May 1917, rejoined Battalion.

18th February 1918, pension of 18/9 a week awarded to widow  one child.

Buried at Roclincourt Military Cemetery, I. D. 18., France.
