Enlisted Hastings, Sussex, age 38 & 10 months, height 5ft 7¾.  Resided 28 Harold Road, Hastings, Sussex / Vine Cottage, High Street, Bottesford, Northamptonshire. Formerly gardener.

Home 10th December 1915 to 3rd October 1916; BEF 4th October 1916 to 8th November 1916.

10th December 1915, enlisted; 11th December 1915 to Army Reserve; 14th June 1916, mobilized; 16th June 1916, posted 16th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, Service No.G/50697; 1st September 1916, posted 22nd Training Reserve Battalion, Service No.TR/10/4478;  4th October 1916, embarked; 4th October 1916, transferred to 26th Battalion,  Royal Fusiliers, Service No.G/42057; 14th October 1916, transferred to 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 17th October 1916, joined 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, In the Field.

30th May 1917, Probate - Holmes Edgar Hugh, 28 Harold Road, Hastings, died 8th November 1916, in France. Administration (with will) Lewes 30th May to Annie Elizabeth Holmes, widow. Effects £407 7s 9d.

31st May 1920, Statement of Relatives - Widow - Annie Elizabeth Holmes, Vine Cottage, High Street, Bottesford, Northamptonshire; Child - Fred Hallam Holmes, 23rd March 1903, Vine Cottage, High Street, Bottesford, Northamptonshire; Father, deceased; Mother, deceased; Brothers - Samuel Holmes, age 36; Sisters - Ada Holmes, age 42; Elsie Holmes, age 32.

Buried at Courcelette British Cemetery, V. D. 25., France.
