Reported died 30th August 1917 - Gerard Freeman Thomas War Hospital, Bombay, (List H.D.4195). With reference to your enquiry (No.C.5808.) dated 16th November 1917, regarding the correct date of death of Private Stokes, please accept 30th August 1917, the date given in the Hospital Report as correct.
22nd January 1962, exhumed from Bombay (Sewri) Cemetery and reburied at Kirkee War Cemetery in a mass grave in front of existing memorial & commemorated at Kirkee 1914-1918 Memorial, Face E, India.
