Previously served in Royal Sussex Regiment / RGA.

Enlisted Maidstone, Kent, age 31 years & 106 days, height 5ft 7½ inches.  Resided 1 Holly Bank, Crescent Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Formerly carman.

17th November 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th November 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 2nd February 1915, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd February 1915, 5 Infantry Base Depot, Etaples; 15th February 1915, joined Battalion, "D" Company; 18th April 1915, posted missing.

13th December 1915, pension of 20/6 a week awarded to widow and three children. Remarried now Mrs M B Lines, 33 North Street, Tunbridge Wells, Kent /  48 North Street, Tunbridge Wells, Kent / 305 B Block, Guinness Buildings, Pages? Walk, Old Kent Road / 44 St Johns Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

1917, September Quarter, Orsett Registration District, Martha Beatrice Carrett married William N Lines.

Commemorated at  Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Panel 45 & 47, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
