Private Cecil James Bradley HAMBLETT, 13799, 1st Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died, 20th May 1921, age 26.

Son of Samuel and Sarah Hamblett, of Lower Guiting, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

3rd April 1895, Temple Guiting, Gloucestershire, baptism of  Cecil James Bradley Hamblett, son of Samuel, (Inn Keeper), and Sarah Hamblett, Kineton, Temple Guiting.


1911 Census - Samuel Hamblett, head, age 57, married, butcher & farmer, born Kineton, Glousestershire; Sarah Hamblett, wife, age 54, married 18 years, 3 children, all still alive, butchers assistant, born Clapham, Bedfordshire; Cecil Hamblett, son, age 16, single, butchers assistant, born Kineton, Glousestershire; Samuel Hamblett., son, age 14, butchers assistant, born Lower Guiting, Gloucestershire; Hilda Hamblett, daughter, age 12, school, born Lower Guiting, Gloucestershire.


Previously served 10th Platoon, Gloucestershire Regiment, 6 weeks, discharged medically unfit.

Enlisted Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, age 20 years & 9 months, height 5ft 9¾ inches. Previously butcher.

Home 8th July 1915 to 6th December 1917.

8th July 1915, enlisted; 9th July 1915, posted Depot, Gloucestershire Regiment, Service No.23328; 12th July 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment; 24th March 1916, transferred to 1st General Service Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd March 1917, transferred to Class "W" Army Reserve; 6th December 1917, discharged as no longer fit for War Service, pulmonary tuberculosis, pension of 27/6 awarded for 26 weeks; 6th December 1918, liable to be sent a Statutory Order to present himself for medical re-examination.

Buried  at  Guiting Power (or Lower Guiting) St Michael Churchyard, South-East of Church, Gloucestershire.  Commemorated on Guiting Power War Memorial.

NOTE: Not included in Regimental History or Soldiers Died in the Great War, but included on CWGC web site.
