Private  Charles HARDY, G/472, 6th Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France, 14th October 1915.

6th January 1896, born Hawkhurst, Kent, son of James & Charlotte Hardy.


1911 Census - Pickhurst Green, Hayes, Kent - James Hardy, head, age 47, married, cowman on farm, worker, born Sandhurst, Kent; Charlotte Hardy, wife, age 42, married 21 years, 8 children, 7 still alive, born Sandhurst, Kent; Percy Hardy, son, age 18, single, shop assistant, boot & shoe shop, worker, born Sandhurst, Kent; Charley Hardy, son, age 15, single, house boy domestic, born Hawkhurst, Kent; Ethel Hardy, daughter, age 12, school, born Hawkhurst, Kent; Dorothy Hardy, daughter, age 5, born Paddock Wood; Annie Hardy, daughter, age 2, born Hayes, Kent; Jimmy Hardy, son, age 8, born Paddock Wood.


Enlisted Bromley, Kent, age 19 years & 8 months. Formerly gardener.

30th August 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st September 1914, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st June 1915, posted BEF.

Commemorated at Loos Memorial, Panel 95 to 97., France, & commemorated on the War Memorial at Hayes (St Mary Church yard),  Bromley, Kent.

Many thanks for your email concerning my Uncles Percy and Charles Hardy. Percy and Charles were the second and third children of a family of nine. My Father was the sixth child named James. Their parents were James Hardy and Charlotte (nee James). They were in Farming as was my Father who moved to Frimley Surrey to work. I have their medal cards and CWGC information.
