Private Alan TATE, L/11035, 10th Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds received in action, 2 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, Flanders France, 30th  July 1918.

5th April 1899, born Chipstead, Surrey, son of Edward & Alice Tate, Crossways, Doghurst Lane, Chipstead, Surrey.

Enlisted  Croydon, Surrey, gave age as 18 years & 150 days, height 5ft 6½ inches, weight 112lbs, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair. Resided Crossways, Doghurst Lane, Chipstead, Surrey. Formerly messenger.

Home, 15th September 1915 to 18th May 1916; BEF, 19th May 1916 to 11th September 1916; Home, 12th September 1916 to 3rd April 1918; BEF, 4th April 1918 to 30th  July 1918.

15th September 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 22nd September 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 29th February 1916, Chatham, whilst on active service, disobeyance of Battalion orders, viz wearing tight trousers, 7 days confined to Barracks; 19th May 1916, posted BEF & 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 10th June 1916, St Omer, admitted 7 GH with measles; 23rd July 1916, Etaples, 40 Infantry Base Depot from 1 Convalescent Camp; 11th September 1916, to England, under age; 12th September 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment;

29th September 1916, transferred to Class W, Army Reserve as underage, actual age 17 years & 5 months, height 5ft 6½ inches, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, scar right thumb.

4th April 1917, Notice to join the Army for permanent Service, at  The Depot, Maidstone, as from 12th April 1917; 12th April 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 15th April 1917, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 27th May 1917, Fort Horsted, whilst on active service, overstaying his pass from 9.30pm until 10.30pm 28th inst, 5 days confined to Barracks, forfeits 2 days pay: 31st May 1917 to 10th June 1917, Fort Pitt Military Hospital, Chatham, hernia; 10th June 1917 to 17th August 1917, ??? Hall Hospital, hernia:

24th August 1917, East Hampstead, Berkshire. married Christina Bowyer, 3 Storrock Cottages, Chipstead, Surrey / Hatchet Lane, Winkfield, Windsor.

Child - Nellie May Tate, born 25th February 1918, Windsor. 

29th August 1917, Fort Horsted, whilst on active service, absent from the 6.00am Parade, 7 days confined to Barracks; 7th November 1917, Rochester, whilst on active service, not complying with a standing order, 5 days confined to Barracks; 2nd December 1917, Rochester, having a dirty rifle on Church Parade, 3 days confined to Barracks; 6th December 1917, Rochester, absent from 2.30pm Parade, 3 days confined to Barracks; 4th April 1918, posted BEF & 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 4th April 1918, embarked; 4th April 1918, Etaples,  "J" Depot; 7th April 1918, posted 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 29th July 1918, wounded in action.

10th February 1919, pension of 20/5 a week awarded to widow and child.

1921 March Windsor Registration Districh, Christina Tate married Albert S Sermon.

Buried at Esquelbecq Military Cemetery, III. D. 17., Nord, France. Commemorated Chipstead War Memorial.
