Enlisted Lewisham, SE, age 19 years & 7 days, height 5ft 4¼ inches, weight 125lbs.  Resided 85 Brightfield Road, Lee, SE.   Formerly machine hand.

Next of Kin (sister), Olive Fenn, 82 Brightfield Road, Lee, SE.

Home 4th November 1915 to 2nd May 1916; BEF 3rd May 1916 to 15th September 1916.

4th November 1915, enlisted & posted 11th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 2nd May 1916, Southampton, embarked; 3rd May 1916, Havre, disembarked; 15th September 1916, posted missing.

14th September 1916, Infantry Records Office memo to D.A.G.The Base, 3rd Echelon - "Attached herewith please find application from the father of No. G/10768 Pte A R W Hollis at present serving with 11th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment. According to his father's attestation when serving in the 16th Lancers his son's age is under 18 years having been born 28th June 1899 and should be dealt with under Army Council Instruction No.1186 of 1916 para 2 (a).

21st June 1918, personal property and any medals granted to be sent to Alfred John Hollis, 3 Prison Reserve, Pretoria, South Africa.

12th May 1920, Statement of Relatives - Father, Alfred John Hollis, 3 Prison Reserve, Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa; Sister - Mrs Olive Fenn, 3 Prison Reserve, Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa.

August 1920, temporary address for 2 months - Mr A J Hollis, c/o Mr Fenn, 17 Little Heath, Old Charlton, Woolwich, SE18.

6th January 1921, letter to Officer in Charge Records, 11th Royal West Kent Regiment, Hounslow - "I have the ????? to request that you will kindly forward me the necessary forms to fill in re Army Order 4-1920 in relation to the death of my son No.10768 Pte Alfred Robert Walter Hollis 11th Royal West Kent Regiment killed in action on 15th September 1916 at the First Battle of the Somme" - A J Hollis, his father - Sharmans Hotel, 3 Waterloo Bridge Road, London.

7th January 1921, letter from Records Office to father - "In reply to your letter of the 6th instant relative to the death of the above mentioned I have to inform you that application should be made to the Local War Pensions Committee address of which can be obtained  at the local Post Office."

Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Pier & Face 11C, France.

In pursuance of “The Regimental Debts Acts 1893” notice is hereby given that there is available for distribution amongst the Next of Kin or others entitled the sum of money set opposite to the name of each of the deceased Soldiers named in the lists which are published with this notice in the London Gazette and the “Army List” and are also to be seen at the Regimental Depots throughout the United Kingdom.

Applications from persons supposing themselves entitled as Next of Kin should be addressed by letter to “Secretary, War Office, Imperial Institute, South Kensington, London, SW7” and marked outside “Effects”
