Private Alfred MASTERS, G/1554, 7th Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment,  died of wounds, Flanders France, 27th June 1916, age 29. 

Born Guildford, Surrey.

Enlisted Tonbridge, Kent.

1914 December Quarter, Lambeth Registration District, married Alice Mary Evelyn Moger, of 78, Addison Road, Guildford, Surrey.

Child - Alice Mary Doris Masters, born 13th June 1915.

26th July 1915, posted BEF.

Buried at La Neuville Communal Cemetery, A. 71., Corbie, France.


Commemorated on Tonbridge War Memorial - Tonbridge War Memorial - The original World War I memorial at the Junction of Pembury Road and Quarry Hill. The names were later re-inscribed in the new Memorial Garden in Bradford Street. 

From Tonbridge History - Alfred Masters was born in Guildford; he married Alice Moger in 1914 (Lambeth). He joined the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment 7th Battalion as Private G/1554 enlisting at Tonbridge. He died of wounds on 27th June 1916 and is buried in La Neuville Communal cemetery. (No known link to Tonbridge apart from enlistment indicating he may have sought employment here).
