Private Albert Henry BISHOP, 205051, (23391?), "C" Company, 2nd/4th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action at Samson's Ridge, Gaza,   Thursday 19th April 1917, age 19.

15th February 1898, born Snodland, Kent, son of Charles Bishop, (labourer), & Ann Willard Bishop, (daughter of Charles Henry Mayatt),  of 3, Brook, Snodland, Kent.

Educated at National Schools Snodland..


1911 Census - 3, The Brook, Snodland, Kent - Charles Bishop, head, age 58, married, labourer papermill, born  East Peckham, Kent; Anne Weller Bishop, wife, age 55, married 36 years, 11 children, 9 still alive, born East Malling, Kent; Ethel Grace Bishop, daughter, age 17, single, at home, born Snodland, Kent; Alber Henry Bishop, son, age 13, born Snodland, Kent.


Enlisted Maidstone, Kent. Resided 3, Brook, Snodland, Kent. Formerly worked at papermills.

13th October 1916, enlisted ; 20th February 1917, served with Egyptian Expeditionary Force in Egypt & Palestine.

Buried one and a half miles South of Gaza. His Commanding Officer wrote: "He is a great loss to us, especially to his many friends on No.9. Platoon. He was loved and respected by all who knew him."

Unmarried.

Commemorated at  Jerusalem Memorial, Israel, Panel 41.
