Private Alfred Henry ANSTEE, 266066, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Born 22nd March 1895.

Enlisted 1st June 1915, Tonbridge, Kent, age 20 years & 2

months.  Resided at "Elstead", Grove Road, North Finchley. Formerly warehouseman.

3rd December 1917, left Jubbulpore; 5th December 1917, embarked Bombay; 11th December 1917, disembarked, Basra; 9th March 1918, present with Unit in the Field; 20th September 1918, Samarra, 40 Field Ambulance, admitted impetigo;  28th September 1918, Samarra, discharged to duty; 2nd September 1918, rejoined Unit; 6th May 1919, No.17 Special Battalion, disembarked at Bombay, ex H T Coconada; 7th May 1919, No.17 Special Battalion, taken on strength; 22nd September 1919, to UK; 27th November 1919, disembodied on demobilization.

Date and place of Origin of disability, states September 1918, Mesopotamia.

No documentary evidence of dysentery, served Mesopotamia, 18 months returning to UK September 1919. Man states he suffered from dysentery in September 1918, whilst on the march. He reported subsequent attacks to Medical Officer and carried on. He had subsequent attacks but never went into hospital. He states he passed blood on several of these occasions. Since returning to UK he has had an attack of diarrhoea with blood and mucus in November 1919 which has lasted up to 2nd week in January 1920. Now he states he gets diarrhoea about once a week but does not pass blood and mucus. Eats ordinary food but no fruit or vegetables. Has abdominal pain. General condition fair, weight 141lbs, heart and lungs normal, spleen and liver not tender, nil abnormal detected in abdomen. Lab report negative. Attributable to War Service.

27th November 1919,  discharged  due to sickness, age 24. Silver War Badge issued.

12th January 1920, weekly allowance, final,  of 5/6, 20% disability following dysentery.
