Private Alfred George HOLMANS, G/4996, 6th Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, 13 General Hospital, Boulogne, Flanders France, 14th July 1916, age 30.  

1885, born Faversham, Kent, son of William and Elizabeth Mary Holmans, of Water Lane, Faversham, Kent.

1st August 1908, Davington Priory, Kent, married Violet Amelia Hunt, spinster, of 69, South Road, Faversham, Kent.

Children - Violet Emily Holmans, born 8th November 1912, 60 Ospringe Road, Faversham, Kent; *Ivy S Holmans, born 7th August 1916, 60 Ospringe Road, Faversham, Kent. * Died March 1919, age 2.

Enlisted Faversham, Kent, age 29 years & 5 months, height 5ft 4¼ inches, defective teeth.  Resided 69 South Road, Faversham, Kent. Formerly gardener.

Home, 15th December 1914 to 13th December 1915; BEF, 14th December 1915 to 14th July 1916.

15th December 1914, enlisted; 14th December 1915, embarked; 24th December 1915, joined 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, In the Field; 3rd July 1916, wounded in action, gun shot wound to chest.

29th January 1917, pension of 18/6 a week awarded to widow & 1 child.

1919 December, Faversham Registration District, Violet Amelia Holmans, married Frederick C Underdown.

Buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, VIII. D. 115., France.

Commemorated at new Faversham War Memorial, which is a series of 8 tablets bearing the names of WW1 and WW2 fallen behind green painted wrought iron railings with poppy bearing decorated gates enclosing the original 1922 Memorial Garden. Located next to the Memorial Cross.
