Previously served Territorial Force, Sussex RE, discharged in January 1913.

Enlisted Sevenoaks, Kent, age 20 years, 7 months, height 5ft 8¼ inches, weight 124lbs, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, dilated veins back of left leg, scar above left eyebrow, scar right cheek, knock knee, small scar above right groin, requires dental treatment. Resided 5 Rosslynn Mansions, Goldhurst Terrace, Hampstead, NW. Formerly railway porter. 

Home 23rd December 1913 to 7th November 1914; BEF 8th November 1914 to 5th February 1915.

23rd December 1913, enlisted, 5th Dragoon Guards, Dragoons of the Line; 24th December 1913, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment; 23rd January 1914 to 20th February 1914, Maidstone Hospital, injury to connective tissue, boils followed by infatigo; 13th March 1914, Maidstone, sating a falsehood to Lance Corporal Donoghue, 5 days confined to Barracks; 10th June 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th July 1914, Dublin, laughing on Parade, 5 days confined to Barracks; 19th July 1914 to 27th July 1914, King George V Hospital, Dublin, influenza; 19th August 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 14th September 1914, Gravesend, firing on wrong target, 2 days confined to Barracks; 8th November 1914, posted BEF & 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.
