Previously served in Royal West Kent Regiment, Special Reserve, Service No.7875, from 5th October 1908 to 2nd January 1911. Enlisted Maidstone, Kent, age 18 years & 2 months, height 5ft 7¾ inches, weight 116lbs, grey eyes, brown hair, scar right shin, small scar forehead, mole back of left thigh. Formerly labourer.

3rd January 1911, enlisted; 7th January 1911, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 29th February 1912, posted India & 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th July 1915, admitted to Busra General Hospital, diarrhoea & debility, 23rd July, discharged; 29th April 1916, captured at Kut al Amara; 20th August 1917, unofficially reported (Ottoman Red Crescent), died 26th March 1917, whilst interred at Angora, marasmus & excessive weakness; 21st May 1918, death certificate received from Turkish Authorities.

19th May 1921. War Office letter to William Reed, 107 Priory Road, Tonbridge, Kent, asking for return of medals as beneficiary is Mrs Daisy L Reed, 188 Union Street, Maidstone, Kent; 28th May 1921, further letter sent to William Reed; 11th June 1921 War Office letter to Police at Tonbridge, asking them to ascertain whether is is intended to return the medals; 17th June 1921, Tonbridge Police Force to War Office saying they had interviewed William Reed and the medals were despatched last evening by registered post, unable to return them before as he was away from home.

Buried at Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, Angora Mem. 134, Iraq.
