Major Laurence BROCK-HOLLINSHEAD, 8th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, near Loos, France, 26th September 1915, age 57.

Born 1858, Blackburn,. Lancashire.

Son of the late Henry Brock-Hollingshead, (Attorney at Law), & Margaret (nee Neville), The Scarr, Blackburn, Lancashire. Margaret Brock-Hollingshead remarried in 1869, to William Coulter, artist, (painter) who was born on Ireland.

Husband of Kathrine Elizabeth Brock-Hollinshead, (nee Armitage), of Ardvarna Cottage, Lymington, Hampshire. 

1879, commissioned Second Lieutenant; 1880, promoted Lieutenant; 1885, promoted Captain; 1894, promoted Major.

Served in the Egyptian Campaigns of 1882-1885, also in the South African Campaign 1900-1902. 20th February 1904, retired as Major 2nd in Command after 25 years continuous service. Rejoined 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, August 1914.

Commemorated at  Loos Memorial, Panel 95 to 97, Pas de Calais, France.
