15th August 1914, Gazetted to Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th September 1914, posted BEF; 23rd September 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th October 1914, wounded, left elbow; 28th October 1914, Boulogne to England, Hospital Ship, St Patrick; 13th January 1915, Medical Board, fit for Service; 16th February 1915, rejoined Battalion at Vlamertinghe; 20th February 1915, Battalion took over trenches at Zillebeke.
1st June 1915, Probate - Lionel Henry Yorke Pownall, of Dunannie, Petersfield Hampshire died 21st March 1915, killed in action in France. Administration London 1st June to Blanche Pownall, widow. Effects £159 16s 9d.
Buried at Bedford House Cemetery, Enclosure No.2 IV. A. 40., Belgium & commemorated on Chailey War Memorial.
