His Majesty the KING has been pleased to confer the under mentioned rewards for gallantry and distinguished service in the Field. The acts of gallantry for which the decorations have been .awarded will be announced in the London Gazette as early as practicable:

With reference to the awards conferred as announced in the London Gazette dated 18th January 1918, the following are the statements of service for which the decorations were conferred.
AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS
2nd Lieutenant (Temporary Lieutenant) Charles Alban William Duffield, Royal West Kent Regiment.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He reorganised the men in his vicinity when all the other company officers in the battalion had become casualties and the companies had sustained heavy losses. Under close and heavy fire he establish a chain of post, and successfully held the ground gained.
