Lance Corporal Frank Ernest BISHOP, L/4743, 1st Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds received in action, France and Flanders, 1st September 1914, age 38.

8th July 1876, born Brookland, Bromley, Kent, son of William and Eliza Bishop, of Bells Lane Tenterden, Kent. Elder brother, Louis Bishop, Silverhill, St Leonards, near Hastings, Sussex.

26th December 1903, Emmanuel Church, Hastings, Sussex, married Elizabeth Adams (daughter of Samuel & Emily Adams), of 95, Emmanuel Road, West Hill, Hastings, Sussex. 

Children: Frank William Bishop, born 17th December 1904, Chatham, Kent, baptised 5th February 1905, Hastings, Sussex; Alice May Bishop, born 21st August 1907, Shorncliffe, Kent, baptised 10th November 1907, Hastings, (deceased 9th? February? 1912?); Roland Kenneth Bishop, born 20th March 1912, Dublin, baptised 3rd April 1912, Dublin.

Previously served in 3rd Battalion, Militia, Royal West Kent Regiment, Service No. 797 from 16th June 1896 to 24th August 1896. Age 19, height 5ft 8 inches

Enlisted Maidstone, Kent, age 20, height 5ft 7⅝ inches, weight 144lbs, mole right arm, scar left thumb. Formerly labourer.

14th September 1914, report by Intelligence Officer that L/Cpl F E Bishop died of wounds in Field Hospital, Crepy, France on about 1st September 1914.

30th August 1918, Long Service and Good Conduct Medal issued to widow, Mrs E Bishop, 95, Emmanuel Road, West Hill, Hastings, Sussex.

24th November 1919, Statement of Relatives - Widow, Elizabeth Bishop, 95, Emmanuel Road, West Hill, Hastings, Sussex; Children - Frank W Bishop, born 17th December 1904, age 14 years, M/42561, No.1. Reserve Battalion, RASC, Grove Park, SE12; Roland K Bishop, born 20th March 1912, age 7 years, with mother; Father, none; Mother, Mrs Eliza Bishop, age 82, 36 Hinson Road, Hailsham, Sussex; Brothers - Enos Bishop, age 55, 33 South Street, Greenwich; William L Bishop, age 61, 19 Paynton, St Leonards on Sea, Sussex; Sister - Eleanor Thompson, age 57, 119 South Park Road, Wimbledon, Surrey.

2nd October 1920, Memo from Adjutant, 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, Fort William, Calcutta, India - No.4743, L/C F E Bishop was employed as librarian to this Battalion. He received 10/- per month as Librarian and 5/- per month as Billiard Marker.

Commemorated at Crepy-en-Valois Communal Cemetery, South West corner, Oise, France.
