Lance Corporal Ernest BOOTH, L/9568, 2nd Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force, 24th July 1915.

Born Greenwich, Kent, son of Walter & Elizabeth Booth, 18 Albany Street, Deptford. Sisters, Florence Booth / Mrs May Williams.

Previously served in 3rd Battalion, Special Reserve, Royal West Kent Regiment, Service No.8176. Enlisted 25th November 1910, New Cross, age 17, height 5ft 5½, weight 123lbs, eyes light hazel, brown hair, scar back of left wrist, mole right cheek, mole left forearm, scar right cheek. Formerly hawker. 23rd March 1913, awarded 3rd Class Certificate of Education, during drill on enlistment in Special Reserve. 24th March 1911 transferred to Regular Army.

Enlisted Maidstone, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 6½ inches, weight 125lbs, fresh complexion, brown eyes, brown hair, scar back of left hand, scar right cheek. Resided Deptford, Kent. Formerly greengrocer.

Home 25th March 1911 to 21st October 1913; India, 22nd October 1913 to 31st January 1915; Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force, 1st February 1915 to 24th July 1915.

25th March 1911, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment ; 13th April 1911, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 4th May 1912, Dublin, carelessly discharging round of blank ammunition, 5 days confined to Barracks; 7th November 1912, Dublin, borrowing equipment of a comrade without permission, 5 days confined to Barracks; 3rd December 1912, injury to left foot, caused by coal wagon going over foot; 4th December 1912 to 12th February 1913, Dublin Hospital, fractured bone in foot, plaster of paris; 10th June 1913, Bray, making an improper remark to Lance Corporal Cooksey, 10 days confined to Barracks; 22nd October 1913, posted 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 15th July 1914, awarded 2nd Class Certificate of Education; 8th November 1914, Hydrerbad, not having a magazine in his rifle on church parade, 3 days confined to barracks;

1st May 1915, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal.

Buried at Basra War Cemetery, II.R.8., Iraq.

In pursuance of "The Regimental Debts Act, 1893," notice is hereby given that there is available for distribution amongst the Next of Kin or others entitled the sum of money set opposite to the name of each of the deceased Soldiers named in the lists which are published with this notice in the London Gazette and the "Army List," and are also to be seen at the Regimental Depots throughout the United Kingdom.

Applications from persons supposing themselves entitled as Next of Kin should be addressed by letter to "The Secretary, War Office, Park Buildings, St. James's Park, London, S.W.," and marked outside "Effects."
