London Gazette 6th February 1918.
His Majesty The KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the under mentioned Warrant Officers, Non-commissioned Officers, and Men, for gallantry and distinguished service in the Field:—
Lance Corporal A T COOK, G/4232, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a counter attack upon a post which had been captured by the enemy, he so skilfully handled his Lewis gun from a point within twenty yards of the enemy as to very greatly assist the main attacking party who were advancing across the open. He then took his gun forward to an advanced position and brought it into action with great effect upon the retreating enemy. The success of the attack upon this dug-out was entirely due to the deadly fire which he poured into it at close range.
