Born Walworth, London, Surrey, enlisted 27th January 1904, Maidstone, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 3inches, weight 113lbs. Formerly skin dresser.

Husband of Henrietta Lillian Bagwell, (nee Willerton), married 10th October 1908, Parish Church, Elmstone.

Previously served in 3rd Battalion, Special Reserve, Royal West Kent Regiment, No.5194., from 12th December 1903 to 26th January 1904, age 17, height 5ft 3 inches.

Home, 27th January 1904 to 17th November 1904; Malta, 18th November 1904 to 27th December 1906; Home, 28th December 1906 to 13th August 1914; BEF, 14th August 1914 to 27th September 1916; Home, 28th September 1916 to 15th February 1918.

4th June 1904, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 18th November 1904, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment;  10th April 1905, deprived of Lance Stripe; 7th March 1906, permitted to extend Service to complete 9 years with the Colours; 18th September 1912, permitted to extend Service to complete 12 years with the Colours; 22nd November 1914, appointed Acting Corporal; 1st June 1916, promoted Corporal; 23rd September 1916, wounded, shell wound left foot; 28th October 1916, posted Depot.

15th February 1918, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds.  Silver War Badge issued.
