His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the following Awards to the under mentioned Officers, in recognition of their gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field:
AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS
Lieutenant (Acting captain) Gilbert William Hindle, Royal West Kent Regiment , Special Reserve.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in command of a patrol, after having successfully crossed numerous streams, he was fired upon by a strong party of the enemy and was in great danger of being captured. Although surrounded and with one of his officers wounded, he showed remarkable coolness and determination, and succeeded in bringing back the wounded officer and patrol to our lines. His daring and skill set a fine example to all ranks.

With reference to the Awards conferred as announced in the London Gazette, dated 15th February 1919, the following are the statements of services for which the decorations were conferred:
AWARDED A BAR TO THE MILITARY CROSS
Lieutenant (Acting Captain) Gilbert William Hindle, MC., 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, attached 10th Battalion.
For conspicuous courage and initiative during the attack near Comines on September 29th 1918. When the left of the battalion had lost direction, he pushed his company into the gap and protected the exposed flanks. He led his men to the final objective with great skill, and when severely wounded directed operations and organised his men to repulse a counter attack before being carried back to be dressed. He behaved splendidly.
