His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the following awards to the under mentioned Officers and Warrant Officers in recognition of their gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field:
AWARDED A BAR TO MILITARY CROSS,
Temporary Lieutenant (Acting Captain) Douglas Victor Sutherst, M.C., 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, attached 53rd Light Trench Mortar Battery.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty east of Albert on 23rd August, 1918, in handling a battery of Stokes' mortars in co-operation with an infantry attack on some craters. He reconnoitred positions, placed his guns and supervised the firing under very heavy shell and machine-gun fire. His determination materially assisted the infantry in gaining their objective and capturing 250 prisoners.
