Sergeant Lewis NEWMAN, G/2216,  7th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders, France, 27th September 1916.

Born Wateringbury, Maidstone, Kent, 8th September 1914, enlisted Tonbridge,  Kent, age 30, height 5ft 7 inches.

Son of William  Edward & Phillis Newman, 22 Kent Street, Mereworth, Maidstone, Kent.

Postings - Home, 8th September 1914 to 25th July 1915; BEF, 26th July 1915 to 27th September 1916.

10th December 1914, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 8th March 1915, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 10th June 1915, promoted Corporal; 30th September 1915. promoted Sergeant.

Commemorated at  Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 11 C, Somme France, and at  St. Lawrence Church, Mereworth, Kent.
