26th June 1916, deemed to have enlisted; 20th February 1917, called up for Service, 5th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment; 5th May 1917, Infantry Base Depot, posted 18th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, G/24780; 22nd May 1917, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment, 19311; 16th June 1917, wounded; 19th September 1917, shell shock; 29th September 1917, Abbevile Hospital; 24th October 1917, to England on Hospital Ship; 28th October 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

18th March 1918, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds.  Silver War Badge issued

Pension of 27/6 a week to 17th September 1918, then 16/6 a week; children allowances 12/6 a week then 7/6. Disability 75%, shell shock.
