Son of Thomas R Joyce, Leybourne Mill, West Malling Kent.
24th July 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th August 1915, posted 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th March 1916, posted 12th Battalion, (Reserve), Royal West Kent Regiment.
23rd May 1916, Medical Board - infantile paralysis affecting right leg, originated in infancy at Withiel, Devonshire. Right leg wasted from thigh down, foot deformed. Permanent. Not result of or aggravated by active service.
8th June 1916, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued
