21st January 1914 to 8th May 1914, served in Royal West Kent Special Reserve, Service No.8952.   On enlistment age 17 years & 81 days, height 5ft 6¼ inches, weight 112lbs, grey eyes, brown hair, scar side of nose result of small pox, mole on side & left shoulders. 17th February 1914, 3rd Class Certificate of Education.

Enlisted  Maidstone, Kent, age 18 years & 109 days, height 5ft 6½ inches, 119lbs, scar side of nose, result of small pox, mole on the left shoulder, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair. Formerly sawyer.

Home 9th May 1914 to 10th March 1915; BEF 11th March 1915 to 18th April 1915.

9th May 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd June 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th August 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th January 1915, absent from Tattoo until apprehended by Civil Police at Maidstone on 26th, deprived of 16 days pay, forfeits 8 days pay; 11th March 1915, posted BEF & 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

27th June 1919, Statement of Relatives - Father, Amos Henry Chapman, 4 Canning Street, Maidstone; Mother, Phyllis Chapman, 4 Canning Street, Maidstone;  Brother -  Frederick William Amos Chapman, age 23,  4 Canning Street, Maidstone.

Commemorated at  Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Panel 45 & 47, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
