Born Goudhurst, Kent, son of Thomas and Mary Ann Smith,  Mission House, Goathurst Common, Ide Hill, Sevenoaks, Kent.

Enlisted Sevenoaks, Kent, age 28 years & 2 months, height 5ft 6 inches, weight 150lbs, brown birth mark left side of neck & left side abdomen, talipes vulgas of both feet but they do not give him any trouble, flat footed. Resided Everlands, Sevenoaks, Kent. Formerly footman.

Home 26th November 1915 to 15th June 1916; BEF 16th June 1916 to 26th October 1916.
