Private Sydney STOCK, L/10183, 1st Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, Chatham, Kent, 20th November 1916.

Born Plumstead, Kent, son of Mrs Sarah Ann Stock, 302 High Street, Plumstead, Kent.

Brothers - George Stock; Arthur Stock. Sister - Lydia Suggitt.

7th March 1911, enlisted New Cross Kent, Royal West Kent Regiment, Special Reserve, Service No.8271, age 18, height 5ft 4 inches, weight 105lbs, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, scar right jaw, bridge of nose & centre of forehead. Formerly greengrocers assistant. Discharged to join Regular Army.

Enlisted 30th August 1913, Maidstone, Kent,  Formerly greengrocers assistant.

15th August 1914, posted BEF.

July 1915.War Office memo, statement of circumstances under which Lance Corporal S Stock No.10183. of 1st R.W.Kent Regiment, became detached from his unit and returned to this country. Cut off from his regiment when retiring near St Ghislain. Captured by enemy at Boussu and escaped. Changed into Civilian clothes and made for the coast. Reached Antwerp and entrained for Ostend. Sent to Folkestone and reported to Military Authorities immediately.

Buried at  Plumstead Cemetery, K. 500, United Kingdom.
