Private Samuel FIGG, S/5593, 1st  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, at 21 Casualty Clearing Station, Flanders France, 9th September 1916,  age 32.

Born Forest Hill, SE, enlisted 15th November 1904, (for six years), Maidstone, Kent, age 21, height 5ft 3 inches, weight 106lbs, resided 56 Porthcawe Road, Lower Sydenham, Kent. Formerly greengrocers assistant.

Son of Robert & Emma Rebecca (died 28th February 1919) Figg, 32 Lankbere Road, Lower Sydenham, Kent. Both deceased.

Next of Kin - Brother of James W. Figg, of 73, Arkley Road, Walthamstow, London.

Formerly served as a Militiaman and transferred to 3rd Battalion, Special Reserve, Royal West Kent Regiment,  9th August 1908. Drilled on enlistment (49 days), present for annual training 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913. Re- engaged for a further 4 years on 16th September 1910 & 1st August 1914. Mobilized 8th August 1914.

Postings - Home, 15th November 1904 to 8th August 1908, 9th August 1908 to 25th October 1914; BEF 26th October 1914 to 9th September 1916.

Wounded 3rd September 1916, gun shot wound to the skull.

Buried at La Neuville British Cemetery, II. C. 52, Corbie, Somme, France.
