Private Samuel BARLOW, G/19408,  7th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, accidentally killed while at work whilst a Prisoner of War, Flanders, France, 7th August 1918, age 24.

Born Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, son of Margaret Hannah Emmons (formerly Barlow), of Quaker Lane, Farnsfield, Southwell, Nottinghamshire, and the late Thomas Barlow.

Enlisted Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, age 21, height 5ft 10 inches, weight 142lbs. Formerly follows thrashing machine labourer. Resided Quaker Lane, Farnsfield, Southwell, Nottinghamshire.

Home 9th December 1915 to 25th June 1917; BEF 26th June 1917 to 7th August 1918.

9th December 1915, enlisted; 10th December 1915, to Army Reserve; 1st February 1916, mobilized to Depot,  Sherwood Foresters; 3rd February 1916, posted 3rd Battalion, Sherwood Foresters, 34205; 13th March 1916, posted 1st Labour Company, Royal Engineers; 14th December 1916, posted 3rd Battalion, Sherwood Foresters; 26th June 1917, 14 Infantry Base Depot, transferred to 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th March 1918, posted missing; 31st October 1918, accepted as Prisoner of War in Germany.

9th April 1918, memo from Staff Surgeon, of the Kommandantur 4, Hautmont - The British Prisoner of War No.236 Barlow, Samuel, was killed on 7th August 18 at 7.45 am by the explosion of a Zinc Smelting Furnace. The inquest took place on 7.8.18 at 9 am

Buried at Hautmont Communal Cemetery, V.C.11.,Nord,  France.
